  • Play right handed yet left eye dominant!

    Hi guys,

As the title suggests I play right handed and am left eye dominant. Something i've only recently been made aware of. Normally I am left handed - writing, tennis, snooker etc.

Since been aware of this it has made a big difference to my putting as I now play the ball just off the inside of my left heel (took me hours to arrive at that!). I've read that it will affect allignment in both putting and short/long game. I would be interested to hear from players of similar situation as to how they approach their game.

    Many thanks.

i am right handed & right eye dominant, when lining up my putts , i use my right eye- to ball- to hole, i have a red line on my ball which i align to putt path... then i take my stance and trust the line ( although from above it never looks to be at target) this has improved my putting no end. you can type in 'right eye dominant' on google search to find out more.

Curiously, I try not to think of which eye is dominant... such little details might ruin my swing.

Re: Play right handed yet left eye dominant!

I've been aware of this issue and I thimk that a lot of golfers don't bother to pay attention. As a result, what looks like a square set up to the ball could be mistaken for an open or closed setup. Hence the eyes tell the brain to swing on a different plane. I'm right-handed and right eye dominant but when I was in grade school I learned to kick a soccer ball with my left leg. So now, during the course of a round of golf I sometimes feel more left-side dominant. So I use the stack-and-tilt swing since my left leg and left eye is in control. It works well and I've trained my left eye and side after countless hours on the driving range to be the dominant force. Where I still feel confused though is with the putter. Sometimed I feel as if i'm looking down the target line with my right eye, hence a more open stance feeling, then other times I set up with the ball inside my left heel. hence a more closed stance. Sorry but I don't have any remedies except practice with the same setup. I'm a 10.1 handicap golfer. Good ball striker, lousy putter. Good luck.

After recently loosing the sight in one eye ( my dominant), I found it made little difference after a period of adjustment. As you state, the biggest was in putting.

jambalaya as a RH golfer who's left eye dominant, I find that closing the right eye while aligning myself on any shot makes a huge difference.

You can try it on the course - close the left eye and line up, then close the right eye and see what happens!
