  • went from fading ball to hooking....help!

I need some swing thoughts here. Without vids of my swing

I was moderately fading the ball....worked with a guy to start a draw....worked on bring club inside to hit the inside quarter of the ball and immediately start bring club inside target right after impact. ball is now drawing hard to a heavy duck hook.....any suggestions

If you're already approaching the ball from the inside with a square clubface then the draw will happen. If you're rolling the clubface just before impact that will close it and add silly amounts of anti-clockwise spin.

Try feeling like you're gonna palm the ball down the fairway with your low hand. Don't flick it forward. Retention of the cupped lower hand is essential.

A moderate fade is obviously better than a hook.

Anyway, try hitting a few half-swings with your feet together for starters.

Are you trying to get your old swing back or hit it straighter?

I think what you are describing is happening only really happens with driver but I notice it with 3 iron as well. Explain the palming the ball to me. I am right handed so my right hand would be the low hand. So at impact my hand should feel like I am pushing the ball towards my target?

        Thanks

And yes a fade is better than a hook. A certified teacher liked my power and wanted me to move to a draw. He was puttig 10 to 15 yards on my irons in more distance and about 30 to 40 on my driver. Somehow I am over doing the drills in my swing.

        Cheers

Hookers tend to get the club ahead of their body in the downswing and slicers get their body ahead of the club. Work on getting the club between your chest through the swing. To draw it aim slightly right and point the clubface to the target. You will need to experiment to get the offset correct.

            hi
my pro got me to change from a fade to draw and i did hit about 10 to 15 yards longer but i never had any real control. i played with my draw for about 7 years before going back to my fade. i find fading i do have control over the ball and am able to work the ball with ease. i could never control how much i drew the ball no matter what i tried.
i was happy to give up the 10 to 15 yards to have better control and i hit about 250 to 265 with my drives and am not a big hitter but i have yet to find a par 4 that i cant reach in 2.
            cheers

                hi Rackster
the 10th at Augusta "Camelia is 495 yards but it drops about 50feet from the tee to the green and the ball tends to run more with the downslope so a 250 drive will run another 20 to 30 feet. if you hit to the left you can make it with an iron but stay over to the right then its still a good 240 to 250 on your seconds.
i still think i could just make it in two some of the time.
that pros average for the hole in the masters was 4.266.
                cheers

I draw and fade the ball by my body alignment and keep the swing the same.

For a draw, aim the clubface at the target, and align the body to the right (how much depends on how much you want to draw and how far the target is), and then just make your usual swing along THE BODY LINE.

For a fade, the opposite setup re body alignment.

I would have problems, if I had to think about taking the club inside on the backswing and then after impact, back to the inside again. I thinkI would likely overdo it on the backswing and then come over the top and smother hook, or turn my hands over through impact in trying to come back inside and smother hook.
