  • Pushing my shots

Lately, my biggest problem has been pushing my long irons and woods. I have a feeling that my problem might be similar to the guy that had the thread having to do with the wrist breaking down. It just feels like my hands aren't catching up with my body on the down swing. Is there any drill that can help?

Start by positioning the ball further forward in your stance, this will help to close the clubface. Feel the clubface moving from open to closed through impact and make sure your arms and wrists are relaxed and extended in the downswing.

      Re: Pushing my shots

I started pushing some shots this morning. After thnking, and looking at wht I was doing wrong, it turned out my ball position was too far back. I moved it up to it's normal position in my stance, and was good to go again. This may not be your problem, but maybe. little things will continually creep into games with out us knowing what has happened.

A little driving range aid I use is a 3 foot metal yard stick. I have marks on it that shows the spacing of my feet, and the ball position for various clubs, and shots. Although I don't use it during an actual round's shot, I will use it (between shots) to see if anything in my address position has changed, when a ball flight problem start to show up. I will put tees in the ground, as reference points for my feet/ball locations, then lay the ruller down to see what might have changed. That's how I found this morning's issue. GJS

It is a path problem. Your path is too inside out and you can't hide it in the longer clubs. If you start getting the face closed without changing the path, you will start hitting hooks.

          Fix your path.

That makes sense too. I have a feeling my inside out swing is caused by the distance that I stand from the ball. I think I will need to experiment standing closer and farther away from the ball.

              Hello!

An inside out path is more desirable than outside in. You just gotta get the blade closing gradually (slightly open at impact) through the hit.

Check your grip is textbook, and that your ball position is off your shirt logo for irons and left armpit for woods. And don't try to power the arms with the body. The arms can move of their own accord extremely quickly. Hit the ball with your arms, and don't flip your wrists forward, stretch them down.

Use your arms correctly and you'll never have to worry about outracing them with an un-necessary early turn.
