No "muscling" being done on my part. That's why my swing speed is 85 mph. My question is based on the fact that elite golfers like Woods and Sorenstam have spent hours in the gym using weight equipment. I read a quote the other day by Sorenstam that she attributed her increased distance off the tee early in her professional golf career directly from hours in the gym on the weights.

      Again this is my opinion.

I think flexibility is a better aid to playing good golf than strength. Increasing clubhead speed through muscle power alone will not work in general, you will see more improvement through creating good lag release and hitting the ball out of the sweetspot. If you study the best golfers they all maintain a good stable posture through the swing, high handicappers always have the opposite; poor posture and instability, irrespective of the size of their biceps

OK: keeping fit is good for stamina and to help fend off injuries, it will also assist in generating power but handicap golfers will see more improvement through improved swing application.
