  • Shortcut Swing?

I could not help but notice this recently posted "shortcut swing" since it seems very interesting indeed. Has anyone else tried this? How does it affect distance and accuracy? It seems to violate the basic commandments of proper set-up and alignment.

    Re: Sliding hips in backswing.
For those that have seen my attempts at trying a traditional swing, with no luck due to an incurable reverse pivot, I have recently decided, thanks to the symple swing concept, to just start the setup with the lower body as if I was taking my backswing already. Basically, a pre-set backswing for the lower body.

So I stand up straight, bend from the waist, sole the club...

    1. Stick my butt out to my left (rh) a bit ( as if I was sitting down on a bar stool slightly to my left)

    2. Swinging is simple, rotate left shoulder under chin - rotate back and let the ball get in the way. Arms and hands are passive.

Has made a big difference and is a very repeatable swing, no need to worry about shifting etc, helps me get in the correct feeling on the downswing as well.

I can hardly believe it. But it seems feasible.

For a left shoulder controlled swing you can also try the "Golf Swing Master Key" by Noel Thomas. It´s the traditional swing but controlled just by the left shoulder movement back and forth.

Sounds like a stack without the tilt.

Is this not similar to the Gravity Golf drill, where you start with the club raised above the head? The difference would be in the GG drill, the club and arms are upright to start so you have to drop, cock and swing.

I think that what you are describing is the standard backswing - if performed correctly.

There should be no hip sliding in the backswing. One simply pivots the pelvis over a slightly flexed right knee => that causes the pelvis to rotate without any sliding of the pelvis to the right. In the downswing, there should only be a small hip bump to the left as one replants weight onto the left foot.

I have labeled this backswing action a "rightwards centered backswing".

I decided to go that route because it was much easier on the mind to 'preset' the backswing. I identified that I had a problem with my backswing, so I fixed it.

This preset also helps me maintain some leverage as well. Keeps my spine angle in a good position. These days I don't have to worry about what my backswing is doing, I just feel the stretch/tension of my left arm and left ribs coiling and that's it - the downswing happens too fast for me to think about, so I leave that alone.

Results have been good, I've now a consistent and repeatable golf swing. LP of course was right in saying that it is the 'stack without the tilt'. Thus good contact is repeatable with all clubs - just a matter of ball position as always.

Maybe mechanically unsound - but in my opinion, it is the farthest thing from my mind when I'm performing the golf swing - so thus less swing thoughts - better results.
