So for the past year, my irons have just been very poor overall. Not hitting the sweet spot, bad ball flight, hitting the ball fat, thin. Just bad iron play. I decided to try the stack tilt and it worked for me.
Why did it work for me?
Well I began to realize that I had issues with shifting my weight forward. In fact I saw this Tip from David Leadbetter about placing a folded towel about 6 inches behind your ball. If you can't hit the ball cleanly without hitting the towel, thats a sign your not getting your weight on your forward foot. I worked on this and at the range, I could do it fairly well and hit my irons pretty well.... but i could never translate it onto the course. Maybe my rhythm gets off, or i get too hurried, or something.
Anyways I started Stack tilt, and it really made it easy for me. It completely leaves the weight on the front foot so it removed that issue in my swing. The swing is complicated enough, i figured taking another variable out could only help my consistency.
If you notice that you have a hard time hitting down on the ball, hit the ball fat, thin, and just inconsistent overall, then this might be something worth trying out.
People complain that this is a "reverse pivot." Actually no, it completely removes the possibility of a reverse pivot. There is not pivot. There is no weight shift to the right side then back to the left. Everything stays on the left leg (for the right handed player).
Using this plus Greg's right hand drill has really helped by ball striking. Its early on the process, but the results were very immediate. If only the weather was good enough for me to golf more
Oh go to the golf digest website and do a search on stack tilt. Theres enough lessons there to figure out how to do it.
