  • Swing Improvement Question

    Hey all,
It has been a while since I posted so hey. Anywho, I have played golf for 3 years or so, and after having a very decent mid first to mid second year, since I have been horrible. I hit every shot fat or thin, and I can's seem to improve. I haven't played in 4 months or so because of college and then Maine winter weather, but I am motivated to have a good 2009 season. I don't really have the money for lessons, but I was just wondering if getting a training aid such as the Swing Setter is beneficial. I think it would be, but would this make me develope, un-natural golf skills? Is there any downside to learing golf wiht a training aid?

    -Thanks

    Re: Swing Improvement Question

Personally, the money you would put towards the swing setter would be better off being applied to lessons. The swing setter costs about a hundred dollars, I believe. It ingrains the load and release. It may not help you specifically in all of the other aspects of the swing, which an instructor would pick you up on your specific problems, likely within two lessons.

You might consider a group clinic package, perhaps at one of the big box golf stores, if you want to cut the costs, versus one on one individual lessons. One of the big box chain stores here have well qualified instructors, and video cameras as well.

Alternatively, you could study recommended sound books and videos on golf instruction, to basically start the review of your swing basics from scratch.
I have a copy of a recommended book, which someone else referred to in another thread; it is Faldo's. Knowing Faldo, you have to know it is sound, basic, traditional, no frills, and detailed. Also, this book, and other books and videos are available for free at the library.

    Good luck,

    Ted

have to agree with rotator 100%.

no training aid will help your swing if you are already swinging wrong.. all your going to do is drill into your muscle memory how to swing poorly until you learn from a professional how to swing correctly.

jump on youtube there are a lot of useful video's on there packed with good information... and bad... the trick is to sort out what you think will work for you and give it a go... the rest. still watch, but find what works for you.

for $100 you could get 2 private lessons or about 6 group lessons... i'd do that.
