    Hi bredoncarberry,

It sounds like you are having a problem with your swing path. Have someone help you (with a video camera if possible so you can see your swing path). Chances are that you have an outside-in swing path. Once you have the correct swing path, that should solve your problem.

You may also have an overactive upperbody motion. Just remember to let the golf swing happen naturally. If you are swinging with your upper body instead of letting the upperbody following your hips, you will also create a pull. Let your legs do the work and the rest will follow.

Something else you could try is to find a good rhythem for your backswing to your contact position. I use and teach what I call the 1-2-3 method. It's really as simple as it sounds. As you start your backswing, start counting to 3. By the time you reach 2, you should be at the top of your backswing. When you reach 3 you should be making contact with the ball. Basically, your backswing should take twice as long to complete as your downswing.

Another drill you can use is by starting with 1/4 swing and ensuring the hips are in the right position at contact. Once you have that mastered, move up to a 1/2 swing, then 3/4 swing and eventually the full swing.

Keep us informed of your progress!!

Something I work on on my downswing is the image of putting my "right elbow into my right pocket" (right handed) this should help your swing path! Also on the practice tee place the ball in between 2 tees: ! 0 ! which encourages you to swing on the correct plane!

      hope this helps!

        Hi brendon,

Another great swing drill for helping stop an out to in swing is as follows. Try this only on the practice range.

Place a headcover under your right armpit (right hander), address and swing as normal trying to keep the headcover under your armpit on the backswing and downswing. Don't worry about the headcover falling out after you have connected with the ball - in fact this should happen if your have a good extension through the ball.

Let me know how you get on with this drill.

PS: A great swing to watch on TV to get the idea of dropping the club down on a good line is Darren Clarke's.
