  • Takeaway Method

    Hi everyone,

Can anyone clear up the role of the shoulders in the takeaway, should I feel my left shoulder going under my chin or around it (i.e do the shoulders move up and down or around). I feel like my shoulders open up when I take the club back is this why I always take the club too far inside ?

    Thanks for any help!

hey man your shoulders should just turn around. you want to feel like you are justing turning them back and turning them through. you want to feel like your right shoulder is replacing the left one on the downswing. maybe you are just having a problem with thinking too much. just swing back and hit the ball.

      Hi RPB,

What you are looking for is approx. 45* turn of the hips and a 90* turn of the shoulders. Remember to keep your left arm (for righties) as straight as you can (but DO NOT lock your elbow!!) and that will keep you from overturning in your backswing. Keep us updated in your progress!!!

Try putting a club about 1 to 2 inches in front of your feet running in the same direction are your target line, swing the club back to about waist high and if the club runs along the same line as the club on the ground you are taking away properly, look at the picture in the takeaway section of this site.

        Good luck
