I have been looking over some online lessons produced by Don Trahan. Some could be considered controversial.Iwas wondering if others have seen these and their general opinion of them?

    Re: Golf Lessons Online

    Hi Peter,

I've seen Don Trahan on the Golf Channel years ago. His method is controversial in that he talks about narrow stance, straight back and straight down swing, 3/4 swing.

However, he has a following. One of the benefits of his swing is less stress on the body.

His son D. J. is a very good golfer on the PGA tour and was taught to play this style from when he was young. He is not a short hitter by any means.

It seems it would be simple to learn and execute.

If you're interested, give it a try. If it does not suit you, then pack it up.

    Regards,

    Ted

Ted,Thank you for reviewing this for me.One reason I was interested is because I had a serious back injury and failed surgery .This has left me with among other things less flexibilty in my lower back. His methods struck a cord and may allow me to play more consistent and less painfull golf. The problem is that there are just so many scam courses and not having played long I lack the knowledge to recognise and subsequently spend wisely.Another matter though,I have found myself hitting the ground alot on the fairways with woods and long irons.I am grounding out a couple of inches behind the ball r-e-a-l-l-y regularly,I just cant seem to hit them cleanly.I am really feeling defeated here.I think I am now defeating myself before the stroke ,with negative thinking.
      Warm regards,Peter

        Hi Peter,

You previously mentioned you had a problem, so that's what it is.

Apparently, there are golfers who have had serious back problems who have taken on the Trahan method, and it has helped them. It kinda makes sense as he promotes a straight back straight through swing with less than 90 degree shoulder turn. He does not promote lateral body motion, such as the hips firing against the torqued up upper body. Followthrough is just up the line and finishing high and not around. All of these would indicate a back friendly swing.

His son does not lack any distance, so that's a plus.

Do some research, and see if this would be something you should pursue. I don't think it's a complex method to learn for yourself. There's really not much to it.

            Peter,

To view the photos with the best effect, click on the Slideshow link. I's not movie mode, but you can see the movements of the swing. Be patient, as there are stop and go duplications. It'll take about 10 minutes of your time, but that would be time well spent, if you're wanting to replicate the swing. You will notice he takes the club straight back and he has a 3/4 backswing. I see that he takes the club back closed, and at the top he is open (toe of head pointing straight down), then he drops it to the inside and the club head is square from then on.

Ted,well meaning people have been trying to get me to get that full twist in my torso and I think this has caused a lot of timing and balance issues.Even though I take 4 hourly doses of strong painkillers the extra pain I have been suffering lately has had me thinking of giving up.I do think this swing is closer to what I can achieve naturally. It is easy to forget I was doing pretty well before I started tinkering.Thank you so much for the slide show,it is not pretty but it works.By the way, how on earth do you find so many great sites. You have helped me immensely.
              Warm Regards, Peter
Ps,My wife thanks you too as you have improved my mood.

We don't want you to have to quit. You enjoy the game so much.

I really hope this, or something else you find, will help you to continue.
We would be interested in your updates, if you continue to pursue this. It may be of help to others with the problem.

Ted,I had a game today and started using his driving technique. It feels very natural to me already. It will take a little while to get things right but so far no increase in pain level and by the 10th I was timing them pretty well.I will keep at it and update you on my progress. It seems positive so far.

                    Hi Peter,

I'm so pleased it's working for you. It may be what you need to continue playing.

I had a thought. If you continue to progress well on your own, but have some "fine tuning" questions, I'm sure if you emailed Trahan, and told him about your particular health problems and asked him the specific question, he might just help you. You can find his website I'm sure if you searched Don Trahan.

                      Re: Golf Lessons Online

Hi gentlemen I ,ve seen the slide show and that is a good swing for an older golfer thats for sure however it could lead to a lot of bad shots cuz it has to many things that have to happen in seqence to work ,I think golfers get sore backs cuz they try and swing like the pros and just dont have the muscle flexability to do so . bottom line they overswing,EG if your personal flexibility only allows you to swing say hands at 9.O'clock , and you try ot make 11 I can garnentee you will Reverse pivot on all swings over 9 Oclock . So swing inside your bodies capabilities and enjoy the game , Alot of golfers can create speed swinging inside what their bodies can take EG JB Homles hope this helps ...dagoos

                        Hi dagoos,

The situation with golfshooter is he has little choice. He has a serious medical condition, which totally inhibits excessive torsion and movements.

I am a new member. Playing tomorrow And am going to try to emulate PPGS. After much thought I have determined that my fault may be that I break my wrists at or before striking area. I had index of 18.3 before stroke four years ago and am now a 35.3. I hit straight but short. I am hoping that a combination of firm wrists and cutting down on overswinging will help. Will post if successful.

As Rotator said Don's son uses the swing on tour and is one of the best 'Green in regulation' golfers on tour.

I subscribed to Don's 10 free on-line lessons recently and gave the system a try-out, I like to experiment with different swings. I found it to be quite easy to follow and does eliminate a lot of strain on the back. It will be another swing system I can pull out when necessary and although a little different in concept works well.

Did you send off for the DVD's in order to try the system? If so any good?
