Lordosis: "Inward curvature of the spine. Normally, for example, the low back demonstrates lordosis. The spine is not supposed to be absolutely straight, so some degree of curvature is normal."
When the low back is too straight, low back muscle are on stretch and less able to handle the torque of body rotation. In lordosis, they are relaxed in better able to. Also, the center of gravity is too far forward w/o lordosis, futher straining these muscles.
One of the primary reasons for low back pain and disfunction in athletic moves is exemplified by your statement and a failure to recognize this. Failure to retain a degree of lordosis as one ages by proper core training and posture exercises is a key component to that. Please read McKenzie on low back maintenance as a beginning to further help your understanding of lordosis maintenance being a key to good postural health.
I hope also we don't discount the importance of the often neglected hip muscles; one of the huge differences between professional golf players and the rest of us is their strength in this important area.
