Re: how do the pros launch the ball so high

All I know is my last time on the range I was launching really 'em high like I used too. I've been working on removing a bad pull and too many fat shots. I don't know if it was the very relaxed grip and wrists that I was incorporating or the little loop to the inside I was doing to help me come at the ball more from the inside but they were launching unusually high.

      Hi jambalaya,

Good work, the inside shallower swing would get the ball elevated for sure.

Yeah thanks. It is amazing. You would think it was the other way around. I think everything I was doing before was in an attempt to not take the club too far inside on the take away but I wasn't minding the downswing. I was still coming over the top just a bit and very steep and hitting a lot of fat shots. The fats have pretty much gone away completely. Went back to the range yesterday and still launching them high, far as ever, and keeping the shot in decent distance within my target. Hitting balls at the range has been fun this week.

When you come in shallow or shallower, you are hitting the ball with the pure effective loft of the club, which should give elevation enough, and the straight on energy imparted gives a powerful direct hit. The other way, which you see most commonly when the ball gets gets up, is when you swing too steep and hit the ball with a lot of spin, which may not be a powerful direct hit, but a glancing one. These are the floaters.
With the woods, the steep swings also bring hitting near the top of the face or even at the crown, which also gives you high popups.
