    Re: Most valuable tip/drill

I often return to Greg's "Right hand drill"

    http://mysite.verizon.net/gregjwillis/LESSON1.htm

It seems to set up a very solid foundation for my golfswing.

      Re: Most valuable tip/drill

Nothing particulary technical and no one thing but a combination of advice from people on here, which, when and if I remember to put into action improve my game a fair bit:

From “Stillhacken” the idea that there is nothing I can do wrong on the 1st tee that the starter or watching pro hasn’t seen before. Works wonders for those first shot nerves.

From Brian a number of suggestions for my driver problems, including a severe duck hook, that in many ways boiled down to completing the backswing and not rushing the transition. Something I have to be aware of all the time.

From Ben the advice to have my driver altered (higher loft / shorter shaft) to gain some control.

You could add to the above a number of course / game management ideas from Ray Floyd (via Mariner) that I’m beginning to try to put into practice; I’ll add my voice to the “buy the book” chorus.

        Re: Most valuable tip/drill

One tip that is helping me lately is from the book "A Hacker No More" by William Kroen, page 20. It has to do with where you are aiming your shot. Pick out a spot on the ground about three feet out in a line to your eventual target. It is much easier to aim at a three foot away target spot than one that is 150 yards away. So my swing thought is to hit to ball over this three feet away target. This has helped my aiming considerably.

          Howdy from Dallas!

Best tip I was taught was
take a small duffel bag and place it on your target line 3 feet ahead of ball
taking a 7-9 iron at first
try to hit your ball directly into the end of the duffel bag

          this compresses the ball
by delofting the face and making the ball run up the grooves

What is not supposed to happen is that you actually hit the bag
If you do your wrist angle is breaking down

Ways to vary this is to place a light colored towel or object
          that you can see peripherally

Take this to the course by picking an intermediate target like a divot, leave, etc.

This took about 15 strokes alone off my game when I was first starting

of course like all drills you have to spend some time with it.
