  • Please Help...

Come on guys someone out there must be able to help. I'm a relative new comer to the great game and I'm trying to get my head around the Stapleford scoring system.
Is there a chart out there somewhere that shows me what holes various handicaps get points on?
I understand the points system for my handicap but still struggle when when I'm playing with someone who has a lesser handicap.
How do I work it out?? I don't want to continually rely on others to work it out.

    It's really quite easy....

Any given hole a Par score will give you 2 points.
with handicaps however your given extra shots. If you were playing off 18 that makes it easy as you get 1 extra shot on every hole. so a Par score will give you 3 points.
Any handicap over 18 and you get another additional shot on holes rated hardest to easiest starting at 1.. So if you look at the above image. if someone was playing off 25HC they would get additional shots on holes, 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, 16, 18 as these holes are ranked 1 - 7th hardest holes on the golf course. The extra shots come from 25HC - 18 holes = 7 additional shots. If you were to score a Par on one of these holes you would get 4 points.

Now if you play on a handicap below 18, it's just the opposite of the above. For example... if a 14HC was to play that course they would not get additional shots on holes 2, 8, 10, 15 as these are the easiest holes on the golf course. so for 14 holes where you get a shot a par score will get you 3 points, but on the remaining 4 holes you would only get 2 points for a par score.

hope this clears things up a bit for ya.

Thanks Mate. I have had fifteen different people explain it to me and all in different ways! I'll learn this one and apply!
