  • Please help im at breaking point

    Hi All

Ive been playing now for just short of a year and have become a bit of a golf junkie. I was at one point at the range 5 times a week and as you can imagine i imporved very quickly. I have managed to get myself down to a 22 handicap and developed an ok swing.

I played on friday and could not hit an iron shot. I either shanked or pushed ever one which is so unlike me. Today i went to the range and again i could not hit my irons at all. I had this problem when i first started and i have not changed anything about my swing since i improved. I am really down about it and just wondered if anyone has any advise and can explain why this is going on. My Driver is good and my pitching and short game is great but like i say i cant hit a iron shot for toffee.

I would love to hear your veiws on this as its driving me crazy.

could be a number of things nathan
first things to check are you are not stood too close to the ball, make sure you are making a full shoulder turn and not whipping the club inside and make sure you are balanced and not ending up on your toes

I had a similarr problem and I found I had started to push the club back with my left arm without any right hand involvement, I found that pulling slightly with the right hand while while pushing with the left got me into the proper position at the top. I hope this helps.

I'll offer that you could be pinning your arms to your body at address, then relaxing them somewhat on the backswing (getting them off your body), then at impact time, they can't get back to where they were. So it's either a hosel rocket or you break your wrists and choke the face open.

        I've suffered that myself.

First thing mate is to chill out about it. This sort of loss of feel happens to everyone intermitantly. Relax your mind about it for a start.

Take your 9 iron, tuck a headcover under your right armpit, address the ball with your feet no more than 6 inches apart and hit some nice steady half then three quarter shots without dropping the headcover. Concentrate on balance and the headcover in your armpit should give you a nice connected feeling between your arms and body and get you some confidence and rythm back.
