  • hands problem

    Hi all.

I have an intermittent problem which is destroying my game when it arises. I t is all relevant to my hands and the takeaway. I normally take away the club square on the line with an emphasis on a square clubface up, down and through. Allthough I do break my wrists, I do not allow the back of my left hand to change direction. When I am striking the balll well I really do have a swing as close to perfection as I would like. When things go wrong, I tend to focus on my hands being the problem in relation to position, i.e. should I have a more straight back on my left hand at the top of the backswing and try to release my hands through the ball at impact. I have also played around with lying the clubface on adress so as the angle of the loft is in a natural position. Then I focus on trying to take the club away so as the club head is dead straight at the top and pointing to my target. I dont have a weak or strong grip, I have excellent set up, can drive the ball approx 270yds mostly straight, and my puttingis good. But I know that my weakness is to do with my irons and the failure to root out this problem. I know if I could get a solution to this problem I would not be far away from single figure handicap. I currently play off 15 but through the season I could shoot up to 18 due to this inconsistency. I would really appreciate some feedback and would be interested to know if anyone else has a similar problem to me.

    Many thanks

    Re: hands problem

I'm no expert and have problems of my own and this may seem unhelpful, but why not have a lesson with a good pro to assess the situation. I'm similar in the respect that my irons are fairly good and my driving is pretty awful at the moment. If I could fix the driving i'd be on my way to shooting low scores. Anyway i'm currently working with a pro because after years of trying to teach myself it's time I get it correct and find that consistency.

Thanks Mike for your response. I have had many lessons over the years and gone to different teachers. Problem is, when I adress the problem with them, I get different feedback. Anyway, just found a video on you tube relevant to this issue. Might get some understanding here. Hope your driving improves!

Yeah same. There's so many pros which tell you different things to do. It's so confusing and costly. However I think i've found a decent pro now fortunately. I found Shawn Clements videos on youtube very helpful anyway all the best.
