  • Swing dilemma

I have posted this in general discussion but am really in need of something I can practice this afternoon so thought I might get a quicker response here.I am playing comp tomorrow and after winning the last comp don't want to make a complete ass of myself. The problem is that suddenly I am grounding my club behind the ball 99% of the time on the fairway. It is incredibly frustrating and has shot my confidence to hell. A friend thinks I may be setting up with the ball too far back in my stance causing my brain to compensate by chopping down in my swing. I have not had a chance to test his theory.Help! Any thoughts would be greatfully accepted
    Regards,Peter.

    Re: Swing dilemma

    Hi Peter,

There are 2 suggestions I would make for this situation.

    1. Don't try to work out a swing problem just before or during a comp. It could get ugly very quickly.

    2. Try to slow your swing down a bit, and think only of making a solid contact with the ball. It may just be a situation of trying too hard to reproduce your previous result.

    Best of luck tomorrow.

      Re: Swing dilemma

      hi golfshooter
i agree with Reefboy that trying to change things the day before a comp could end up with you having difrent thoughts in your head and when things dont work so weel then you start trying to change things as you play and that more often than not it makes things worse not better.
try to play with what you have and work on playing more within yourself.
you may find by just slowing down a little you get better contact with the ball and end up with a fair score for the day.
      all the best
      Bill

        Re: Swing dilemma

Hitting fat is normally a problem related to either hanging back on the right foot or casting the club from the top (or both)

Make sure you are shifting your weight to the front foot in the downswing and holding on to your wrist cock later into the downswing.

Also: At address hold the sole of the club a little above the ground, only a little though.

Thanks to all for the advice. I did play in the comp. It was a total disaster both physically and mentally. I won't be playing again until I have it sorted.
