  • Back of my hand killin me

The two tendons on the back right side of my right hand hurt like a sob after 30 miniutes at the driving range... Super novice, 3 lessons and no games played... Something wrong with my grip, too tight?

    Thanks in advance for advice,

    MO

It may be that you are not used to swinging a golf club yet. Don't hit too many range balls until your hands and wrists get more used to it.

I would be suspicious of the grip AND the use of the hands/wrists in the swing. Something is wrong in any part of the swing if after 30 minutes you have pain other then the normal "I feel a bit sore after that workout".

Where did you learn to play? Self taught? Or instructor?

If you're experiencing pain in your hands or arms, the first culprit is a too tight grip. Most beginners, take a long time and suffer a lot of painful ailments until correct grip pressure is used. If you can pick up and start your swing with your hands, your grip is too tight and pain will follow with high reps. You need lessons from a PGA professional like a rotator cuff injury needs physical therapy to reduce the discomfort.

IMHO, make a point of discussing grip and grip pressure throughout swing as part of your next session....instructor must take your lead on problems you encounter and adjust focus accordingly. As a former educator, that's a must.
In addition to the other good observations, 30 minutes is a long time to incorrectly swing longer clubs if that's what you did. Shorter clubs put less stress on body and are just as important part of your session. Some beginner players may be better served by hitting pitch shots with 3/4 swings for 30 minutes for example.
