  • No Kill Drill?

    Hi All,
I fractured a vertebre in my back last weekend, so needless to say will not be swinging a club for a while. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has any drill to help me with my release that I can do in my down time. This has always been a problem with my swing and was hoping there was something I can do to improve this while I cant do anything else.
    Thanks

    Re: No Kill Drill?

    hi
i damaged L2,L3 and L4 vertebre in my back about 6 years ago and have to give up golf for almost three years. when i tryed to play again i fond that after just a few holes i was in lots of pain. i played with a closed stance and hit a draw.
i changed my swing back to a Trevino swing "a fade" i use to have some 10 years before and i found that i could play a round without any real pain.
i think that a open stance puts less presure on the lower back as long as i dont try and hit a draw i don't get pain.
i know it works for me. i don't swing as hard as i use to but i still get the odd round of 80 to 82 and i'm happy with that.
maybe trying an open stance whe you start swinging. maybe just start with a half swing. that how i did it.
if you start to hurt then stop as you could put wear on the spine that cant be repaired.
if not sure ask the doc.
    all the best
    Bill

      Re: No Kill Drill?

      Hi Shamed04
I too fractured a vertebrae at L5. I had surgery and the resulting stiffness at L5 S1 had me popping discs at L4 and L3 as the stress point simply moved up the spine. Damaged backs can be tricky and I would be very carefull about practicing anything at this early stage without talking to a good sports physiotherapist. The result for me was no sport. I tried for years to find something I could play (even tai chi ) without extreme pain. One day a friend invited me to try golf. I found that if I played with a slightly open stance as Bill has said, I could play without disabling pain. It has changed my life. Anyway enough about me, I just meant to say be carefull.
      Regards Peter.

Thanks for the advice everyone..I might just take it easty. My injury is a 5-10% compression fracture in the L12. From what I understand its not to bad, but backs can be tricky things.
        Thanks

This link takes you to Don Trahan's site, he suggests that his swing method is particularly good for the back and people with back problems:
