(RH GOLFER) In my first year of golf, my swing is progressing nicely (I started out with a low baseball swing). My question now is when should I break my wrists in my takeaway? I was having really odd success hitting the ball when my takeaway started with a shoulder turn, followed by my torso and hips turning. I would keep my left arm straight, and my right tucked, and at the top of the turn is when I would break my wrists. My playing partner (who's swing is looking better than mine, and who has spent some considerable time being coached by a CPGA pro), insists that I should be breaking my wrists almost immediately. I find that it breaks down my turn due to my left elbow breaking down at the top of the swing, and I'm sure I'm not completely turning.
So my question is, at what point should I be breaking my wrists? Shortly after my takeaway, as my partner suggests? Or leave it at the top of my backswing?
