  • Spine Angle Help

How should I work to improve on my spine angle. I took some video of my swing and I know what I'm doining wrong but dont know how to fix it. I get more upright in my backswing then dip back down again and it makes me try to reach for the ball instead of the ball being in my swing path. What do I need to do to fix this?

You need to train yourself to keep your head at a similar height through the swing, it should preferably dip down a little as you come into the ball.

Get someone to stand in front of you and hold an extended clubshaft on top of your head as you swing, make sure you stay under it then pick up on that feeling during your normal swing. Another drill: Take your address position then move your head up against a wall (Smooth one preferably ) make a swing while maintaining your head touching the wall.

Look first at your back leg. Are you straightening it in the backswing? It should stay in it's flexed setup position. You rotate your hips around this pivot point and keep the leg flexed.
Then look at at your core posture at setup. Are you slumped from the top? Do you have you shoulders slumping down to extend the club at all? You want to make sure you are as "chest out" as you can be and this will actually cause you to make your stomach muscles tighten to support the new posture. Keeping this setup feeling now, simply rotate the shoulders back 90 degrees and let let arms and hands set naturally to the top. You should feel leading torso stretch, which will probably be a new feeling to you. These moves should keep you in a better spine angle and create a more consistent impact point.
