  • Posture is lost pre-impact - standing-up at impact

    Hi,
    Hope someone can help.
I've been cutting the ball lately.
When I saw my swing on video it appears that I lose my posture and stand-up a bit at impact causing me to cut across the line.
Any drills etc to help ?
    Cheers

I was doing this and probably still do sometimes. I found this was because of a lateral hip slide instead of turning the hips. Filming your swing would probably help a lot in diagnosing why you are standing up at impact.

      Thanks, thats defo correct.
I tend to be very square with my hips at impact and have slid forward and defo not hitting against a firm LHS.
So any idea how to stop the slide to the hole ?????

Well just trying to get that left hip back left seems to work for me.

Usually caused by a hip slide back ... and then not being able to get the weight off the right (back) foot on the down swing. Don't let the weight get to the outside of the right foot on the back swing. Another little drill or swing thought if you will....is to imagine a wall behind you, in the back swing try and feel like your right (no polite way to put this, sorry) butt cheek goes back to touch that wall, then on the down swing imagine the left cheek also going to wall while maintaining the right as well. Both cheeks maintaining contact with the wall. This will keep you down through impact, since standing up would require you to move away from the wall with your butt. You can do some slow mo drills with out a club with an actual wall in the house to get the idea, don't let anyone see, they won't know what your doing and think your touched...lmao...lol...but this will give you a good idea of how the hips operate in the swing, keeps your spine angle.

You must have been listening to too much Peter Kostis. He has never met a spine angle he has liked.

This is one of those posts where I would love to see video of what you are describing. What do you consider losing posture? Where is the ball going? What is your normal ball flight? What other people call 'losing posture' someone else may call 'snapping your kinetic chain' (which is a really good thing BTW).

              Any chance of a vid?

                Hi,

If you mean that you are "topping the ball" from standing up at impact, it's the same problem I am going through right now.

My "pro" found out that my problem was that I was more concerned in where the ball was going before impact & I would "top the ball" by attempting to rush to my final stance just before point of impact.

His resolution ( and when I do it right, it works ) : Concentrate on the ball, watch your club hit the ball & if you are right handed, your right shoulder will tell your head when to turn.

Now mind you, I am a beginner golfer myself so just an idea.......
