  • the dreaded shanks

went out last night just to hit a few balls and get some fresh air
and shanked 5 balls out of 5 shots with my favourite club.
I know what causes it but does any one have a drill to get rid of it.
im going to the driving range tonight and will hopefully sort it out there but a good drill would be really appreciated..cheers

    Re: the dreaded shanks

The only cure is to hit the ball with the sweetspot of the clubface. Start with short chips...or even putting...and when you hit those without shanking, move up to longer chips...then 1/2 swings, then 3/4...etc.

Never start out with a full 100% swing warming up.

thankfully my putting game has always been pretty solid
      but the shanks
keep popping up every now and again

i suppose its all part of the game

ill try your idea and see how i get on

Shanks are caused by the hozel leading the clubface into the ball. What fixed it for me and others I have given this tip to was to make sure you rotate the clubface through impact. Practice with short swings and really exaggerate turning over the clubface as you impact the ball, this will give you some confidence, you can then make longer swings.

I gave this tip to someone I know recently who had a terrible outbreak of them, he is a good golfer and was despairing with it. He saw me last week, thanked me and said they have now gone.

          Re: the dreaded shanks

I have suffered on a number of occasions with the 'DREADED'.

In my particular case, it stems from sitting back on my heels at address.

Try setting up on your toes - to the point where your almost going to fall onto your face.
Swing nice and easy and pick up pace as your confidence builds.

It will eliminate the problem - Honest............

Only one cause of the shanks, your right shoulder if you are a right handed player, is getting way head of the hands. Keep the right shoulder parallal to the target line at impact, your cured. bp
