  • Training aids I have bought that didn't work !

    Let me think:

    In Order :

Controller driving Iron - Supposed to hit it straight everytime with it's curved clubface. It didn't, sent it back.

Ugly putter - I've still got this and the advert said it always goes where you aim. It's small, black and mallet shaped. Completely awfull, never seen a pro play with one which explains everything.

Butch Harmon Lazer - Used this quite alot, don't think it did much good. Spent loads of money on batteries for the lazer.

Momentus - Complete waste of money, might as well swing with 2 clubs together.

Justin Rose swing plane gadget - Not dear, worked with a level type thing with a bubble in the middle. Found it totally impossible.

Greg Norman Secret - Found this next to impossible to use, ended up losing it. I think my Dad had it last !

Takeaway gadget - Can't remember the name but Chip Beck promoted it. Rubbish !

Head movement thing - Lee westwood promoted this. It was supposed to keep your head level. Small and cheap. All it did was prove my head moves.

Medicus - Spend £100 on this, didn't like it, found it impossible to use. Hit a few shots with it but it didn't really work. Does anybody want to buy it off me ?

Others - The Magic move of golf ! - Bought this in the early 80's. Best thing I bought, only cost £7. I think it works best for beginners. Very simple idea. In a yellow booklet. Dodgy putting method though !

A video by this old grumpy golfer. Can't remember his name. It was all about a golfer with one leg hitting it 300 yards. This old guy had this method where you don't turn your hips or something. Complete garbage, sold it on e bay for £1 !

That's it ! Can anybody top my list ?

Re: Training aids I have bought that didn't work !

There are no silver bullets or fast fixes. Welcome to the none information black hole of the golf industry. They know we will do anything to get a good golf swing, they pray on our weekness and promise us the world, but in the end it all ends up the same. It would not suprise me if you gave the game up for good. My advise is to seek information rather than gadgets. There is good information on this site and information that is bad, you must be the judge of what you read. Understand that the golf swing has been taught for years by lots of different people and the results have for most part been the same. The average score for amateurs is 97 and it has been the same for over 100 years. that would tell one that the teachings have been off course, no results. Ask yourself why and seek the truth, you will find the answer. Let me help you as I have helped others by asking: How do you hold a hammer, a tennis racket, a baseball bat? How have you been taught to hold a golf club? Good luck on your journey, you will find the answer! bp

No I've always played to a reasonable standard. Current handicap is 5 but I've always wanted more. That's why I bought all those training aids.

I would say the best thing to do is buy a camcorder, film your swing and study it on computer software !

        PuttKing,

I enjoyed your post. I have had the Medicus (huge waste of money), and I laughed at the head movement thing. (Good ball strikers move their head).

        You forgot Kallasy Swing Magic.

The best swing aid I have ever used is a triangular shaped fedex box. (It simulates the plane).
