  • hand eye coordination

Just wondering what would be a nice trick to practice during winter off-season. Something to show off before teeing to cut the edge of competition - you know something that says - hey, nice hand - eye coordination....

I started to practise bouncing a ball with a wedge - It's not very fancy - so maybe some one can share other tricks?

    Happy New Year

Thanks Killer - You know that we have a name for "a slice" and "a hook", but the shot you discript is a pit new to me... I think I've might have done it some times by accident ---

      Do you know anything easier:-)

        Re: hand eye coordination

unfortunately all the evidence shows that if you want to improve hand eye co-ordination for golf it has to be very specific to the golf swing. An example would be that i can pick a dimple on the ball that i want to hit, but if i try left handed i cant even hit the ball, i have great hand eye but it doesnt translate to a left handed swing.

try hitting tees in you back yard without hitting the turf. See how low you can go just clipping the tee

best drill i have it to find a bunker, or draw a paint line on te ground and practice taking a divot as close to the line a possible. When you place the ball on the line this will 'guarantee' a good strike

for accuracy practice getting your divot in different directions and then work on clubface control. Divot will determine start line and clubface will determine curl (thats a very basic view i know but it goes too deep to explain here)

another drill is to practice hitting a coin off the mud. If you strike perfetcly it will make a nice 'ping'. if not you will just hear mud or nothing at all.

            Very good tricks:-)

One more that came to my mind is chipping coins from a carpet.

I'm looking for indoor tricks. At the moment it's nice outdoors - only -14 C, but we have 50 cm snow and it's dark outside. Winter:-)

It does not matter if the trick does not translate to driving skills - it's just fun to play and learn more about the tools...

Draw a line in the snow and take a divot in front of the line

where your ball would normally be...not as easy as it sounds...

Yes, like practising in a bunker for a sand shot?
That could be a good exercise to learn the bottom of my swing.
Maybe even try different swings like chip, finesse chip, power swing and full swing. (I don't know about the correct names, but I meant just like short game, iron game and full swing.)

We have very soft snow at the moment so this "trick" can be done.

                Thanks

In a bunker you take a divot behind to scoop the ball out...

Now your going to be taking a divot in front of the line...

It's not a trick but gives feed back to whether your pivoting

on towards your left side or flipping at the ball...

Yes - and there is a drill to practise your shot. It's where you draw a line and so on...

Grip a wedge in just the tips of your left forefinger and thumb when doing your keepy-uppies, bring a portable stove onto the first tee, fry 3 eggs with your right hand so the yolk is perfectly runny, take a phone call, chat up a stunning girl and write her phone number down whilst teeing your ball up and knitting a scarf.

Do that, and your hand-eye coordination will astound your playing partners.

Hand-eye is developed between the ages of 0 and 5. As an adult human, if you can't hit whatever it is you're looking at, you never will. But the body and brain are perfect machines for carrying out that task. I dare say your hand-eye coordination is wonderful. Just let your eye tell your brain where to deliver the bat. To think is to handicap yourself.

lol, i agree with almoste everything you say here.

however, hand eye co-ordination can be improved or refined as a skill can be learned, otherwise we wouldnt be able to learn how to throw darts after the age of 5.

i think the bet drill is to practice hitting the ground in the correct place over and over again. If you get this correct the ball do most of what you ask it to.

to get more measureable stats, hit ten balls and count the total distance you hit away from the ideal line - then try and beat it. That competition against yourself will focus you and improve your ability.

But i do agree with a lot of what you aid above - most of hand eye is determined early on, as are gross motor functions. But i was a late starter and didnt play any sport at all until i was 12. After 3 years i was golf playing pro

                          Hi,
I think that if you start practising bounching a ball with your club, you will improve bounching a ball. It might be due to better hand - eye coordination or due to better consentration - or both. I don't know how well new skills translate to golf - chipping, putting or full swing.

I think that playing with your club gives you more skills and knowledge of your tool - you get the feel of your club. And if this improves your consentration - well...that's nice.

But I am mostly looking to kill time - and have some fun....and learn something that keeps my mind busy before teeing or before a round in competition. I am terrible with my nerves - very bad.... but getting better fast:-)

Here is a good one to practice:

Not sure how you balance the top ball though

I was wondering about the same thing. This winter might go just solving the first problem.
