Hight is regulated by the steepness of the angle of attack on the ball. You do this mostly with the use of your hands. As the hands are fully set at the top, they can be released in 2 ways: Aggressivly (giving more hight to a shot) or passivly (hitting it lower).

Try allowing you shoulder turn to be more dominate and just let the hands simply find the bottom of your swing. Don't force the hands to the ball...You still have to release them, but do it in a relaxed fassion. This should give you the feeling of a passive release.

Then go back to your old swing and see the difference in hight. You should be able to do both on demand. I use a passive release when driving the ball and into-the-wind shots. I like to be more aggressive down-wind and for landing the ball to a tucked pin.

You should also start to develop a neutral release that you will want to use all the time, so you have somewhere to go either way from there.

    Hope this helps.
