Quote of the month:
"It's easy to see golf not as a game at all but as some whey-faced, nineteenth-century Presbyterian minister's fever dream of exorcism achieved through ritual and self-mortification." ~Bruce McCall
There are TONS of drills you can do at the range, but here are some of the best drills I have seen to get you back on track. They are from GregJWillis (one of the pros on this site) and they hit all the basics: http://members.cox.net/gregjwillis/GolfLessons.htm
One of my favorite drills/routines I do when I practice on working the ball, I usually pick a target (150 marker) and work on drawing and fading the ball around the marker. Try to mix up the order - straight, draw, fade, draw, fade, straight, straight, fade, draw, etc.
Most of my time is spent chipping and putting when practicing. Try to come up with some real creative situations at the range. When chipping I usually practice shots from around and over the bunkers. Shots with your feet in the bunker and the ball in the grass are extremely important to have practice with. Also the opposite apply with ball just in the sand and your feet are on the grass. You can practice hitting from beside a tree by using your bag as a tree and practice making shots from left side, right side and right up against your bag (tree). When on the fringe, practice chipping with the ball right against the collar of the rough or 2nd cut. These are shots you do face during a round, but very few people practice.
When putting, there are a few drills that will really sharpen your skills. My favorite is where I start off at 2 feet using 10 balls. Once you sink 10 in a row, move to 3 feet. If you miss a putt, start back at 2 feet. Your goal is to move in 1 foot incriments up to, or past, 6 feet. If you miss from any distance, you must start over at two feet and work you way back up. This really helps on pressure putting. After being at the range for 3 or 4 hours and you want to go home and you have 1 more 6 foot putt to make, it's amazing how that compares to the nerves you have to fight off during a tournament.
