  • I had a lesson

I went and saw Ralph West who I used to work with back at Copper Canyon. One of the few guys I will REALLY trust to work on my swing. If he tells me to do something, I'll do it. Unlike the majority of instructors out there who I find just mimic what others say.

He had me do two things. First let my left arm roll more taking the club back and have my hands get flatter, more around my right shoulder.

Second, he wanted me to use my lower body MORE on the forward swing. He wanted me to really let my legs go.

The results were EXCELLENT. I have never seen so many beautiful draws in my life. They weren't pull draws either. They would start right and draw back.

looks goods ,,,tempo a little quick, and you could get to your left side abit more. ,,,meaning your hips dont get all the way around on your finish , you should be able to hold your finish abit better.

Yeah, turning the lower body is the second part of the change. Right now I am still trying to get used to letting the forearms roll going back. I've always kept them a bit closed to help keep the face shut going back.

Maybe I am misunderstanding what you mean, I have always considered rolling the forearms in the takeaway as one of the biggest faults in the golf swing. The club is fanned open early and tends to be pulled too flat around the body.

You're not wrong at all. But for me it helped to improve the release and my plane. I was just doing the opposite before. Too shut and too steep a plane going back.

Looked over your swing in slow motion, you take club back to much inside , hence the little OTT move on your transition, to fix this in your take away when hands are about chest-high try and get your left arm parrallel with your target line ,then con tinue to swing up. I am a stocky type golfer and I have to watch this position all the time . if I take it to much inside I get flat and have to do the OTT to get back to ball just enuff to slice ball off to right. As far as rotation u could be shuting club down because of your inside takeaway let your hands and arms reponse to the weight of the swing /club. try this takeaway and check your finish ,,,you should feel abit more balanced and it should bring everything around naturally , hips included ,dagoos

Normally I would agree with you, but the results are staggeringly better for me. If you look at the old swing, I took the club back as you describe. I had a terrible bout of the push cuts. The clubface was left open and I was coming across the ball. The rolling of the forearms is to facilitate a flatter plane going forward. What matters is the forward swing, not the backswing.

If you read the original post carefully, I had problems of a shut face BEFORE the new swing.

Listen to your pro brotha...I've found that the worst thing for my game is to start listening to what other people say. I have one person that I'll actually take advice from because too many times I've been hitting the ball well and someone tells me something and ill play God awful for the next 3 weeks until i forget what they said haha. Good luck man just work on what he told you there's no such thing as a perfect swing just do what works.

I have a new video of the swing after 1 week of working on the changes. I am coming into the ball much better. Clubface is open longer in the forward swing and I'm attacking the ball from the inside on a flatter plane.

The most improtant difference I see , is that "before" swing you can see the shaft above the right shoulder on the down swing, on the after swing you can see the shaft below the shoulder, - the shaft bisecting the line between the shoulder and elbow on the dowinsing is ideal, but appears to be really good position. mike

Much better Ringer. You are dropping the club into the slot on the downswing and coming into the ball from the inside.

                      Well done.

Thanks Brian! It feels good being able to hit a power draw with regular consistency.

Brian, you are correct; there should be no manipulation but if it works for some who have mastered the move, fine. The problem with rolling is getting the timing to not roll back too much or too little on downswing.
Under the pressure of a golf match, it usually will not hold up.

Same thing I thought for years. But I no longer say something "cannot hold up" when clearly many guys on the tour appear to be doing it just fine.

Do you think that many people on tour fan the club open in their take away?
