  • Help Please

I was wondering how good golfers get their shots to rise into the air with that hissing sound, it is hard to explain but the ball looks as if it rises in a straight upward slant and then falls sharply. With my swing the ball has a more rounded flight and the ball travels in a hill shaped flight pattern, it is not a problem with swing speed i think because mine is in the 90's. What does this tell me about my swing if i am not hitting this way.

Thank you very much, this is something I have been wondering for the longest time.

There are many factors that affect the flight of the golf ball. Perhaps the most influential is the angle of attack that the club comes into the ball. Generally the steeper the angle of attack the greater the amount of backspin imparted on the ball. A golf ball that is struck in such a way with a short iron will tend to have a very distinctive trajectory and will come down almost vertically and will often spin backwards (depending on how well it was struck, the green, and the type of ball).
