  • Need help figuring out whats going on with the spin on my driver.

Tried posting this in the long drive section with no responses.

Just picked up a new driver. Cobra S1. last years model but I got a good deal on it. I hit it long and hit it solid but it just hits and sticks. It almost looks like it spins back sometimes. It is a 9.5 degree which is what my other driver was also. I hit it high but not crazy high.

I am thinking of changing the shaft to see if that is the issue. I have the stock stiff shaft on it now. I'm thinking that something with a lower kickpoint may help. The current shaft has a midkick. My swing speed was clocked at 105MPH las time a bout 2 years ago. Should be a little faster now as I have made a few adjustments and have been in the gym. Any recommendations on a nice shaft?
Anything else I can try? Thanks in advance.

try teeing it higher, if you can hit it solid with a higher tee it means you are coming in flatter, less back spin. if you come in steep, with a lower tee, you may be imparting too much back spin. anyway, something simple to try

I agree with the last post. You may be generating high spin which is giving you the height but the ball will hold up and drop almost straight down as the spin drops off.

As explained tee the ball higher, increase your Angle of Attack, use a good quality three piece ball that will create lower back spin off the tee.

Only when you have tried this should you look at changing your shaft.

just one last comment, coming down steep may be the result of getting the club stuck behind you. mike

I would recommend a 48" shaft in stiffer flex than you now have. Get 4" tees and tee it higher than you think you should. Now when you come into the ball, you should be hitting the face on the upper third and make sure you are hitting up on the ball. I recommend a +2 impact angle for driver, more if you can get it.
This is not a traditional approach but it works for 99% of those willing to try it.
