  • Lifting the Left foot on swing

My golfing partner has developed a habit of lifting his left foot when he swings. He will take 2 practise shots and not lift but when ever he strikes the ball up comes the leg. He is righthanded.

That foot comes up when the hips over rotate back. This gives the feeling of more turn, but in relaity, it creates less tourque between the shoulders and hips. You want to separate the shoulders as far from your hips as your flexability can stand. So when you start your downswing with your hips first, the shoulders will be ready to be rotated automaically. If there is a gap in tension between the shoulders and hips, then when the hips begin the downswing, there will be a delay when the hips get around to the point when they grab the needed tension to start the shoulders turning. This looses potential energy, and you have to use more power and timming to get the shoulders around. By having the hips stay as quiet as you can in the takeaway and letting the shoulders rotate to their maximum, you now have all the tension you need to allow the hips to fire around and that gets the shoulders to come with them allowing less lag time, better timming and less energy spent to get the shoulders rotated 180 degrees before impact.

Seeing someone lift the front foot tells you they are rotating their hips too far back.

Solution is to first streach the back in those positions. It could be a matter of flexability. Have someone hold your hips in place and you rotate back slowly. You will know when you can't go any further. Hold that position for a few seconds in a relaxed state. Then slowly return back to setup. Do this again untill you can get to the full position without someone holding your hips.
