  • How to get on slow motion video?

I have an old video camera but it does not have a slow motion feature. I would like to be able to take a video and then watch it in slower motion. Is there a place/web site that you can send a video to and then have them slow down the video and give it back to you - online?
Or is the only option to buy a digital camera or video recorder that can show it in slower motion?
    thanks Rob

Here is How to get on slow motion video?

Hi I have been doing slow motion video for years. If your video is Mpeg then you should have no problem using this application. I've done video for 2 golf tournaments of late. That resulted in a "GOLF" option being added to make the program even better.

We found that it was difficult just getting the swing in slo-mo. Some golfers took all kinds of time and others were so quick we sometimes missed them. The ONE thing we could control was at the end of the swing - we would turn off the camcorder. So I made a quick program change so that during the "golf" catalogue of those short (6 to 12 second) clips we could have the last 3 seconds (the swing) played in slow motion. The short clips would play at full speed followed by just the last 3 seconds playing in slo-mo.

Within 10 minutes of getting off the course; the video was up and showing for the participants as they were having their supper and awards. They loved it.

See the demo and video from those tournaments.
    Osooyos Golf video

For each tournie we had 90+ video clips from behind the golfers and another 90+ clips with a side view.

Re: How to get on slow motion video?

you can you windows movie maker and view it frame by frame or you can use the edit and slow it down in playback. But the real answer is a slo mo camera. I think the most popular one is the exilim. It shoots 210fps, (frames per second), 420, or 1000fps. The standard camera is only 30fps. I have some videos I tried to view frame by frame with a 30fps camera but the club, hands and even arms are blurred so much that you can't even see what happened.

The exilim is the greatest slo mo cam IMO and the cheapest on the market.

Casio Exilim High-Speed Digital Cameras: EX-FC100 they have sample videos on this site I think, if not I am sure youtube has some.

More video control with the on/off switch

While showing those golf video clips after the supper; a number of golfers wanted to see their swing. But at the time we couldn't easily do that. They were just 2 video clips in among 180 or so. Now there is a SOLUTION.

By creating an extremely short video as each group approaches the Tee (maybe showing a whiteboard containing the flight# and player names?); the program will use that as a "group break point". That will now allow for the golfer to indicate which group they were in from the tournament sheet and we can replay their video and those of the rest of the players in that group. It will also enable us to play the videos random by group. For the Barrel racing it will randomly replay the video group for each racer. For this event we shut the camcorder off and immediately switch it back on after the horse and rider round each barrel. Randomly playing just part of the run wouldn't be the same.

Here is what a respondent from another Forum said:

this is an honest-to-God useful feature. I've often wished the shuffle function on music devices could be made to work this way. The reason is that I mainly listen to classical music. Much of that music is divided into movements, with each movement being a separate track. The movements themselves are not independent, however, and in sequence form the complete work. So I'd like to be able to say, for instance, "Play all my Beethoven pieces in a random order", and have Symphony #6 followed by Piano Concerto #5 rather than Symphony #6, movement II followed by Piano Concerto #5, movement I.

You may want to try an application Media Player Classic Home Cinema as an alternative to Windows Media Player. It has a lot more options for playing your MPEG videos in slow motion and for stepping frame by frame. Also, I find the playback to be much smoother than WMP's. I take 30 fps videos with my digital camera and play them back with Media Player Classic with pretty good results, especially for the basically free cost.

Get Media Player Classic at http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/
