Hi Nickers, I hope you have been enjoying your golf

If you wear a wristwatch on your left wrist a good drill is to push a hair comb under the watch so that it lies over the top of your left hand. This restricts the amount you can bow the wrist. It will give you the feel of a flatter wrist through the swing. Keeping the right wrist hinged back also helps. Try not to rotate the forearms in the takeaway.

Not taking the club back so inside will allow you to keep the left wrist from bowing if that is what you want. Also, taking the club back like you are handing off a ball to someone directly behind you will help.

        Thanks boys,

Good to hear from you Brian. Hope all good with you too. Golfing is good.

I am struggling to keep the left wrist flat at the top. I find it very hard to focus on the left hand.

I have tried breaking the right wrist early and hold a tray of drinks at the top but this caused me to take the club back on the inside.

Any other drills as I have tried the ones suggested - cheers

stop actively hinging the wrists, the wrist angle at address should be the same at the top of the back swing, the more you try to actively hinge the more wrist cup.

Cheers Michael. In my ten years of paying for tuition I have never been told not to actively hinge the wrists.......

Fella's as you can tell I am flat out like a lizard drinking whilst working night shift.

Interesting read of previous thread. Well - I am a hitter. I am going to give pnearn's post a try. Sounds interesting......

this idea of no wrist hinge is from Trahan Peak performance golf, basically rec: 3/4 shoulder turn limited swing, vertical, with no wrist hinge. may not be for everybody, but has helped me with consistentcy

Michael I might have a chat with my coach about wrist hinge/cock....this may be the root to my cupping/left wrist collapsing problem.

                    vp -

Take your grip and address the ball. Note the amount of cup in the left wrist. Now using only your wrists, raise the club straight up in front of you to where it’s parallel to the ground. I call this "cocking" the wrists. Note the larger cup in the left hand.

Now go back to address. This time, bend your right wrist so the back of your right hand moves toward the back of your forearm, like doing a waggle. No up or down "cocking". Just fold the right wrist backwards towards the forearm. I call this "hinging" the wrists. Notice how this move flattens out the cup in the left wrist. Also notice that from this position, all you have to do is rotate your body through the ball and you will hit it with a flat left wrist.

Back to address. First "cock" the wrists up and then try to "hinge" the right wrist back. Should be very difficult. Especially difficult to hold any "cocking" while "hinging".

Back to address. Now first "hinge" the right wrist and then "cock" the wrists by rotating your right forearm counter-clockwise. There will not be as much "cocking" but you will have a flatter left wrist. This is the correct procedure.

The point is that the hinge is the critical move and it must occur before any cocking. When and where and how it happens, is a matter of preference. It doesn’t have to happen immediately at takeaway, nor does it have to be completely passive nor completely active, but the hinge needs happen and it needs to come first.

Make sure there is some separation of your grip between your thumb and index finger of your left hand. Here is a video explaining why.

                          That's another good video Ringer.

I would just comment on the overlapping grip:- This grip works well for players who have short fingers, it has worked extremely well for Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Myself.

I like the overlap as well and I have short fingers. My girlfriend has even shorter ones and prefers the interlock.

Thanks for the reply Steve. Also thanks for the reply on your web site.

                              A query I have is;

                              - Is there any premeditated cocking or hinging of the wrists throughout the takeaway.

                              - Secondly, are the positions of the wrist the same at address and and the top of the backswing?

                              Nickers
