  • SHANK !! Its just a word .. ..

    Hi everyone

Iv been a regular visitor to this site for the past few months just browsing and reading around picking up some usefull drills but unfortunatly Iv been forced to register and ask for some help.

After a winter of hitting balls i decided to switch my clubs away from game improvment and onto a set of Mizuno MP-60s needless to say they a bit harder to hit and it took me while to figure out how to get them working. The answer for me was to start hitting down on the ball !! In turn I had to make alot of adjustments steepin my plane get my hands in front of clubhead at impact ect.
The results were pretty much immediate after two weeks my irons were going lower and further and stopping quickly with my wedges backing up or stopping dead. This confidence led me to shooting my best round ever and in turn all the effort had left me a bit burnt out golf wise so i took a break for the last month.

I played my first round last thursday and then another today and its been a complete disaster both times . When i get an iron in my hand all I can seem to do is SHANK it into the nearest OB . Its scary how bad it is...!

After a bit of analysis with my playing partner it seems i have the clubface open at impact so much as while its not exactly hitting the hosel its flying right and really low. Also he says my hands look a little to far forward at impact.

I think it would probably be best for me to put some video up but as im not going to be able to put it up untill the weeked i though maybe i would start the thread and see if maybe their was an obvious answer to my riddle ..

Also just to mention I only recently ironed out my terrible driver slice by changing to a pronounced in out swing plane with my driver that i either hit straight or get a slight pull with.I was wondering if maybe this swing shape is creeping into my irons and causing the shank.

Even when i slow down my swing something which i usually do when im making changes to get the feel for it i still find it hard to get back square.

I have other questions relating to this but rather than ask and lead ye guys away from yer initial thoughts il hang on to ask.

Any help would be really appreciated

Im just going to add a little edit here for reference in the post below need help dropping in the slot!!!!! in the video in this thread before the golfer strikes the ball he brings the club to an 8 o clock position this position is almost exactly the same as mine at impact. The results of striking the ball like this is not that impressive I must say. Im almost scared to bring this swing back out in public the shame
