Hi I am a 3 handicap golfer. I play 3 times a week and never miss a day of practice. My backswing is on plane and in good sequence until I get to the very top and the clubhead moves closer to my head to start the downswing. So when I begin to transition downward the club gets steep and I have to recover with everything I got. This is causing me alot of inconsistency. Any help would be great as I am trying to get to a scratch golfer by the end of October and this is a huge problem right now. Thanks

Re: Top of backswing
Get into the tray position at the top and just keep your arms from controlling the downswing and you are all good.

Re: Top of backswing
No offense please but if you were in the tray position, the club would not be closer to your head.
One drill I like is the pump drill. Another is with a mirror and going to the top and stopping, see where the club is and where you want it to be.
Another is to take the club in right hand and lay it across your right shoulder, turn into your backswing, and at the top, take hold of the club with your left hand.
Hope these help.

Re: Top of backswing
I appreciate it I just got back from the range and the drills helped I think. Just frustrating because one week I can't miss a green and the next week I can't hit one to save my life! So thanks for the post. I hope to be posting my swing on hear soon so maybe you could take a look at it. Thanks

Re: Top of backswing
Thanks I will check those things as well. As of right now birdies are few and far between. I've played rounds where I have made 15 and 16 pars and shot 76-77. I just can't seem to score that well but my strategy on the course is always my strong point. But I do think I might be too conservative sometimes and lose oppurtunities. But I wouldn't know an oppurtunity if it hit me in the face. Thanks Again

Re: Top of backswing
This is my golf swing, I need help figuring out how to stop moving the club at the top of the swing because it's causing me so much inconsistency. Any help would be deeply appreciated. I practice 3 hours everyday and need drills and things to practice correctly on my swing. Thanks
