  • Position of shoulders and hips at impact?

Hi Guys. Glad the site is up again! Just a quick question. Am I correct in saying that at impact your shoulders should be relatively square whilst your hips are open ( and it shouldn't be the other way around!). So bascially at impact your shoulders would be say 15 degrees open, whilst your hips are say 45 degrees open? Am i correct to think this? thanks for any thoughts

I would avoid being that technical. Here is one way to figure it out.
On the backswing, weight is transferred using the inside toe of the front leg and the inside heel of the rear leg, on the down swing, weight is transferred using the inside toe of the rear leg and inside heel of front leg.
In doing this, the hips open us naturally-for some it is 45* for other more or less. Also, if one is standing behind the player who does this correctly, the arms disappear as the rearend and rear heel appear.
I know I just became technical but just suggesting another way to look at it.

always depends what you want to do with the ball. Lots of players have their shoulders square at impact, some great players like hogan and furyk have their shoulders open at impact. Its more down to the path the club is swinging through impact.

Also you flexibiliy and ability to separate (move independantly) the hips and shoulders is important. Someone with very low flexibility (or just a lack of understanding) will not be able to get into a 'hips open position' at impact.

Try this test. Stand in your golf posture and hold your hands across your shoulders. Now without moving your shoulders see if you can rotate your hips either way. This will see how much (and if you have the physcical literacy) to be able to separate your hips
