  • left arm purpose/action

As Go Low pointed out in his recent post on tension, the left arm is misunderstood by some. I like to think of the left arm as the key to the backswing move and also to impact position.
On backswing the left arm bicep should be against the left pec as the chest turns, some like VJ place a headcover under their armpit as a drill to insure they are doing it correctly.
On the downswing, the left arm stays against the chest and straightens into impact.
Those who chickenwing it will notice an immediate gain in power and trajectory by doing the drill.

Good post keiko----even though the Leslie King lessons (Lesson 1 on this site) say "...upper arms are NOT resting on the chest" is confusing, what you say re: the left arm bicep against the left pec seems to work better, and if you've got a large chest then there is no other option. I think it helps for a longer swing arc too, keeping the club in front of you.

Yes, staying connected means keeping the arms moving with the chest not away from the chest and staying with the shot means the left arm is straight at impact while the head stays behind the ball, irons slightly, woods more so.
turning back together with few moving parts.

        Spot On

        Excellent Post Keiko,

I have focused a lot on staying connected in the golf swing. The head cover under the arm pit drill really works. I would recommend it for anyone that feels like they are becoming disconnected.

        Cheers
