  • Wet Conditions

The 2nd round of our local club championships today were played in mostly showery conditions with rain soaked fairways. I hit a few fat shots particularly early on that didn't reach the target.

Interested in members best advice for playing on wet fairways when conditions are not ideal. My initial thoughts would be to play the ball a fraction more forward in the stance to help catch less of the grass under the ball through the impact zone.

    G'day mate,

I tend to have my best results in wet weather when I treat all shots like hitting a driver into a strong wind. I slow down the swing a bit and focus on a centred, clean contact with the ball. It might be just a little shorter then in the dry but it is definitely going to be further then hitting fat.

      Hi
Agree with Reefboy in slowing down, also i tend to use a club more and try and swing with a nice rhythm. work on keeping the ball on the fairway rather than distance.

        Re: Wet Conditions

Our raining season here is more than 4 months in a year. Soft turf in the fairway and moisture is part of golf in the inactive season.

I change my Hogan Apex to Cally X-14 PS for the winter, a bit wider sole would help not to dig into the wet soft mush. I also compact my swing arc somewhat and concentrate on contacting the golf ball first.

Most of all, Because of the soft turf would typically sink in 1/4"-1/2" on the pivoting heel during weight shaft; maintaining balance is crucial.

I like to choke down a little when hitting off soft, wet fairways to compensate for slight sinkage of feet into the turf during the swing.
