  • Posture&balance&tempo

as fundamentals, I believe posture, balance and tempo are keys to building a good swing. All of us can attest to what happens when these things are not good, golf is an effort instead of effortless.
Even at my age, 65, I swing within myself and start each round or practice session with drills to remind myself to stay balanced with good tempo.
If any of you are struggling with your swing, step back and take a look at how you look to others. Have someone critique or shoot a video of you swinging a club.
Alot of good things happen with posture, balance and easy tempo; for example, here in florida with the summer heat, I can play 18 holes in the heat of the day and not feel tired, my not so good shots are not so bad and at the end of the round, I don't feel stressed.
If you are working on advanced techniques but have not mastered the things I am listing here, you are wasting your time.

Yes all three are really important. I find if I am ever struggling at any stage during a round it's because my tempo has changed. It dictates the speed of my golf swing. When I'm playing well it will naturally stay the same and work almost like on auto pilot. With one or two bad shots it's usually because I have quickened up without realizing it.

      Re: Posture&balance&tempo

      hi Keiko
i agree about playing within yourself, getting you posture right and then keeping a good balance and tempo, i do think you need to swing within yourself and if that means swing at 90% or even 85% then you will find you hit the fairways more often and the game starts to feel easy when you make your handicap score each week and are not fighting to try and score.
i find like Keiko says the round is more relaxed and you do not feel exhusted and that it was a real effort getting round.
i think to many handicap players swing to hard with the driver and it results in the swaping drivers every 6 months looking for the 300 yard driver. it not all about distance and more so when your a handicap player.
      cheers
      Bill
