  • simple change could be the breakthrough

    hi
ive posted before that i have had in the past real problems with coming over the top, not being able to release the club, and having a huge hip sway in my swing.

i watched a short video on youtube the other day which was presented by a LPGA teaching pro, unfortunately i cannot find the link. Basically it was just teaching the correct grip and how it allows you to move the club properly, by means of hinging, releasing , and importantly to me, not allowing my wrists to break on the takeaway.

im not too bad at golf, play off 9.9 at the moment and always thought i had a pretty sound setup, but it could appear that a majority of swing faults do actually stem from having a slighty incorrect grip. ( when holding in left hand only (RHanded) the club would fall out my hand if i tried to hinge ).

Since correcting my grip i can now seem to turn, hinge and release alot easier. my wrist no longer collapses on the backswing and my shots are so much longer and consistant.

i know im getting a wee bit excited as ive only been to the range twice since using this, and only hit about 500 balls, but i cant wait for the weekend to play!

am i right in thinking a majority of my flaws would stem from my grip ?

No question. Griping it wrong will always translate to swing adjustments that translates to bad fundamentals.

If I put my hands together to pray, that's my grip. Simple and allows all body parts to work as they should. IMHO

And invoking higher powers before each shot is never a bad thing.

Your entire swing is based around your grip.

Ultimately our goal is to generate as much speed as possible while still getting the clubface square to the target. Your grip is essentially the alignment of your arms to the clubface. So essentially your entire swing is trying to get your hands into that particular position that squares up the clubface regularly and with the most power.

I know you have posted this a while ago.....but feel it is extremely important to comment on. The GRIP is totally important to hinging and unhinging consistenly...hand and wrist manipulation is a primary factor for inconsistency.
As far as your over the top issue.....i would recommend a training aid called the Pro-Lag. You can check it out on YouTube or go to their site.
            Good Golfing,
            Rick
