  • Habit of Swinging from the Inside

    Hi Guys

Through this website I have learned that we come over the top by throwing out your shoulder, and conversely the magic move of the lateral hip move, assists in drooping the club into the correct slot to swing from the inside.

I was wondering, if you are someone that has the tendency to pull shots or hitting over the top, are they any drills or suggestions you would have for them,to create a HABIT or becoming a person who now swings fromthe inside the majority of the time?

I understand that even professionals can pull their shots when they are under pressure ot rushing their downswing.... I guess I am trying to work out, how do you turn yourslef into a player that under pressure or when they tend to make an erro, it errs on the side of hitting too much from the inside?

Is the translation to try and set up for a draw on most shots, so it creates a habit in your swing? is the key to keep doing the BUMP drill? is the key to over exaggerate and lead violently with the legs, as that will encourage at least an in to out ball flight? Or is the key to keep your right elbow close to your hip during the downswing?

What things to do like to tell yourself? Keen to hear anyone's thoughts

    thanks

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

The 'Pump Drill' is great for learning how to start the downswing from the inside. Take a look at this video:

      Hi Andrew
make sure you have no backward slid of the hips only a "Bump" towards the target.
i find that dropping the right elbow just in front of the right hip and driving the hips round always puts me into a "in to out swing-path".
if you slid your hips back on the backswing then you lose your timing and have way to much hip slid on the downswing. having a hips slid to the target is fine for most golfers but any slid of the hips back towards the right on the backsing is a swing destroyer.
      cheers

I like to think of the right back pocket turning perpendicular to the target line then actually a little towards the target on the backswing.
On the downswing, I just allow the right arm to drop into the slot which for me means down to the right hip and slightly ahead of it.
This puts my left arm in a straight line coming into impact while the right wrist is bent back on itself.
There must be no lifting during this movement.
The socalled "pro move" is a little squat on the downswing which lowers the center of gravity while staying behind the ball at impact.
Further behind the ball with driver, less so with irons.
