  • Changing my grip ??

    Hi All,

I am a 8 handicap player, but my golf is like a box of chocolates (as per Forrest Gump...), I never know how my game is going to go on any given day. My short game saves me most of the time.

My question is. I am using the hammer/baseball grip when holding the club. I do not hit a long ball at all, basically average distances, and when my game is off, slightly shorter. I am considering using the interlock grip. What is the disadvantage of the baseball grip and is it a good idea to change?

    Thanks,

    Kruger

with the interlocking grip, it may be more beneficial for people with small hands.

with the basbeball grip- my guess woud be the problem with that could be your two hands may not operate together in one unit, and possibly the baseball grip can encourage excessive use of the rolling the forearms

    thats my initial thoughts

      Re: Changing my grip ??

      Thanks Mahbo for the reply.

I chose to go with the overlapping grip instead of the interlock. Initially, I did not have any problems with the change, shot level par (net score) with my first round. After that, it somewhat of a disaster, next round was a 10 over par net score again.

I am coming slightly over the top now and I am not striking the ball well. I think with the hammer grip my right hand dominated, and now with my new grip, I am still trying to dominate with my right hand. And maybe my shoulders and wrist and everything is trying to accomodate this in some way.

So this is like Tiger Woods, a work in progress swing....

      Will keep you updated.

I personally find changing my grip a scarry thing.....I recently did that too.....and once you have changed it, even if its a small change, it feels like a monumental change.

that said, allow me to encourage you to keep at it....just because it feels bad , and even if you score a bad round...IT DOES not mean your change was wrong....

it take courage to press through it, and not revert to the old way......

my theory is, if you arent changing and tinkering, you arent improving

        take care

          Grip It

I started off golf with the baseball grip as it was the most comfortable at the time. It was a difficult transition going to the interlocking grip but I got used to it and so will you.

As mentioned by Mahbo the big difference is your hands will work more as a unit with the interlocking/overlapping grip. This enables you to shape your shots a lot better and also I believe create better timing and therefore clubhead speed at impact.

My advice is to stick with it, whether you stay with the overlapping/interlocking whatever feels most comfortable. It's takes time to adjust that's for sure. In the long run I am certain you will be better off.

          Cheers
