  • leg movement in backswing

Okay so I am a 3 handicap trying to become more consistent. I have just in the past 2 weeks had a break through where things are just clicking. The question I have is about the leg movement in my backswing. In the past I have had maybe a little too much leg movement on the way back and it has thrown off my timing very easily. 2 weeks ago I began just taking the club back with my arms and shoulders and keeping my legs still until they naturally move when my arms get too far away from the body in which they can't help but to turn. This has led to much better ball striking because my legs start the downswing and my hips clear everytime and the arms just are along for the ride. My question is, is there anything wrong with this technique? My driver and 3 wood off the tee have been great as well with this technique but my 3 wood off the deck is very poor. Just wondering if it's due to this technique. I'm sorry I know this is alot but thanks!!!!!

What you are doing is good and should not affect your 3 wood, you may just be swinging a little steep with it, try to bounce the flat underside of the 3 wood club-head into the back of the ball.

A good image with the takeaway is to imagine a wooden stake impaled at a 45 deg angle through your stomach and planted into the ground directly behind you (a bit gory I know ) As you take the club back the stake holds your hips still and when you get halfway back it snaps and allows you to turn them back a little.
