Hi all, I have just back from a 2 month lay off due to illness. I went to the course to play 9 holes and found I could not make clean contact on anything.I mean wow it would have made great comedy to someone was watching, luckily I was alone. 9 holes and 11 balls and of course many weird and wonderful ways of attempting to make clean contact. We don't have a range but do have a practice fairway. Out at 6 o'clock next morning slicing, fat shots, thin shots, sh#&king , and snaphooking
The only thing that stopped the agony was to play each ball at half swing, with feet together. Then they were wonderful, accurate and close to as far as my normal shot. So, it's in the legs, Weight transfer, to much unnecessary movement in the knees, wobbly head, Perhaps with less to think about my hands v club head position was better. I suppose I need a way to work through some of these things any thoughts? Where do I start? Either way I am not going around the course again till I fix it, the silly thing is I was playing my best golf ever before I broke down
    Regards, radar1

    Re: Disconnected

I know it seems odd but these type of problems can affect a better player more. It only takes a very small amount of off centre movement with the clubface to produce some horrible shots.

When you swing with your feet together you are prevented from swaying, if you did you would fall over. Try working on keeping your rotation centered and stacked around your spine so that your head does not move much, it can rotate a little but should not sway, think of the feeling of swinging while stood in a barell. Also ensure your upper arms hug your chest through the swing, getting separated can lead to the club face moving out of position.

      Re: Disconnected

Thank you Brian, that gives me something to work with. I do know that I worry about the club face during swing, for instance trying to get the toe of the club pointing skywould about the first quarter of the back swing I think I might be having trouble squaring the face and and releasing close to impact. This is the only bad shot with the feet together Trouble is as soon as I worry about what is going on behind me I'm stuffed.

        Balance

Yes Brian is right. I would also add to practice working on shifting your weight correctly from the right side to the left at impact and finish (right hander). This will help with making better contact with the golf ball.

Hope it is all coming together for you.

        Cheers

            Re: Balance

Hi guys, my messages don't seem to be posting. I replied to this earlier today but it is not there. Anyway the gist of it was that my back cannot keep up the feet together drill (an earlier operation was a spectacular failure) I am pretty sure there is a weight transfer problem. A posture problem as I turn through and up, and I caught my hands allowing the club to overtake them. OK, having several things to work on I need drills that don't have me screwing on the lower vertebra, please help my ego can't stand many more sh%$ks.I did have my first hit of a hybrid, there is no challenge, one after the other on the fairway, these things are great!

            Help! radar1

Radar, if you're quick replying, make sure you click the silver "Post Quick Reply" button under the text box, not the blue "+Reply to Thread". I've "lost" a few posts because I didn't scroll down enough!

As for the short squirters, I just got back from the Dominican and suffered them on virtually every full iron shot.

I had a friend come over and check out my swing and he called two things to attention:

              1) My sequencing was screwed up. I was "chopping from the top" versus leading with a hip turn. This poor action got me very steep and OTT; by leading with a weight shift and hip turn I got back on plane and coming from the inside.

              2) Although this helped, I'd still hit the occasional hosel rocket. This was identified as arms too deep - so if I just rotated (as I want to) the arms are too far behind to be useful. The solution was to stall out and fling the arms and hands - a solution I didn't want. The proper solution was to keep my lead arm from collapsing onto my chest (keeping width in my swing) and the ballstriking came back as though nothing had happened.

Just my path down the very same road.

                Re: Disconnected

Thanks for the posting tips LP.Your dead right, I practised this morning and stilled my legs a little more and went to a shortened swing . This allowed me to pull those arms in as Brian said. This had the effect of bringing my swing shallower. I am still shooting the occasional hozel buster, but things are a whole lot better and with you blokes wisdom I know I am on the right track

                Relieved, rader1
