    Re: Run Away

I have been told that I have a dry sense of humor(if you could call it that), I have just been having fun with you and meant no harm, I find once in awhile I need to apologize when I put someone on and they take it seriously.
Let's move on to more topics, I will post something in the near future, right now I am practicing for the club championship and then perhaps another stab at the US Senior Open this summer.
    Very busy.

I would love to have a game of golf with you one day Keiko, it sounds as if we are of similar standards and age although you have played golf longer than me, to that fact I bow to your experioence. When wearing a younger Man's clothes I was a fair 'Squash' player and threw myself into that sport in the same way I do now with Golf. I also played 'Rugby Union' (Another Limey sport) and my build and strength assisted me with this 'Thug's Game' played by Gentlemen, as to 'Soccer' or Footbal as we call it which is a 'Gentleman's Game' played by Thugs I have a Son and two Grandsons in the USA and normally go over at least once a year to see them, they are in Chicago, I guess this is the wrong end of the States for you?

Anyhow! I will as I said, now leave the debate on shot shaping and 'D Plane' I think I have set out my stance clearly enough. If anyone wishes me to clarify anything further on the subject I am willing to reply by PM.

      Re: Run Away

I am not continuing this discussion now ... but I want you all to know that there has been some discussion around gyroscopic effects (stability) and even precession a few years back at http://www.freegolfinfo.com/forums/t...416421&mpage=4 .

But even they did not talk about the rotation of the spins around the "Z" axis pointing towards the target. So I am still "on thin ice".

Please continue your (hopefully sunny) weekend, the golf season is getting closer even here!

        Interesting discussion.

Anyway Keiko, good luck with the Seniors, would love you to break your anonymity as it would be great for this community to cheer on a fellow GTO member and active contributor.

            Re: Run Away

I have been in many senior opens, the toughest part is qualifying round-many really good players and on any given day who knows.
If I do well I will let you all know, if not-maybe. Anyway, due to privacy issues, none of us want to tell the world who we are on this forum, it can lead to some problems.

              Re: Run Away

I dont really think most people need to know the REAL ball flight laws. They are far too complex and curving around a tree for example would require advanced formulas to work out the perfect way. Club loft at impact, ball speed etc all interact to produce the amount of curve and even starting direction. Its simply too complicated to be bothered with and doesnt give anyone apart from number buffs anything.

You would still teach it in the same basic way. Sure we all know that clubface dictates more of the starting direction. You still have to stand there for hours of practice. All the top pros from yesteryear were great at shaping the ball. Did they know the advanced ball flight laws.... did they hell. So how did they do it correctly. Well try a few thousadn hours worth of actually practicing this stuff. Its gotta be instinctive in the end. I could hook it round a tree long before i knew i had to aim my swingpath a lot furtehr right than the clubface. Feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel the shot. practice it.

Does a basketballer think about the velocity, release point, hand angle, launch angle, jump speed etc etc etc to get the ball in. We have an amazing brain. Lets not intefere with it working

For once i actually agree with Keiko as i am very old school too. although it is an interesting subject. I suppose where it would benefit someone is the coach, in regards to setting up certain tasks for a player. Get under a tree and make them try to draw/fade it around with different clubs and different amounts so they get good intuition.

The point was that if someone wants to be taught how to shape ballflight (and many do) then they should be shown the correct way and not something that does not work. It's not difficult to understand either, we have discussed some of the finer detail in this thread because some of us like to do that. You only have to understand how the difference between face angle and swing angle affects sidespin, not that complicated and much easier than trial and error.

very true. Was just saying that the finer details are not so important for a player. The avriables are so many that it should just run on instinct from practice.

                    Re: Run Away

Thousands of players including myself and most tour and teaching pro's shaped the ball very efficiently for years and years and still do without any knowledge whatsoever of D plane. D plane is one of those things that comes after the fact, ie. "oh, so that's why that works",
My point which was soundly poo-pooed by many of you was, it is not necessary to know why something works as it is to know HOW it works. I can teach someone to shape the ball without ever discussing D plane and players have done it since the beginning of the game.
Few on this site are willing to admit that
                    Now I will move on.

You just dont want to get the point, do you? It was never about you!

It's a shame that you have taken what was meant to be a thread to assist those learning the game and wanting to move on a step into a personal issue that was never meant for the likes of you. Please do move on and get over it.
