  • What Happened?

59 1/2 years old. Took up the game three summers ago and thought I had finally arrrived last month (except for the driver) until five days ago, after crawling around underneath my van to change out an alternator for several hours. I lost my groove. I was punching my 7-iron anywhere from 150 to 170 yards, depending upon how sweet I hit it, amazingly consistent with everything shorter, and acceptably striking the long irons (3-5) most often.

I've lost my rhythm, feel, and most importantly, my confidence. I'm back to placing the ball inside my left foot as opposed to the middle of my stance to keep from hitting the ball with an open face and yanking any good contact 50 yards left of straight. My brother's coming down from Alaska in 10 days for his vacation, and our 4th annual "Celebration of Being Brothers" golf match (he's very good). I feel like I'll be lucky to shoot 110, when I've been getting closer to shooting an even par with each passing year.

Fluid motion and timing seem to be keys to the success I've known, and had become as natural as getting out of bed. Now they've deserted and I feel like I'm starting over from the beginning. HELP! ANYONE?

Try hitting some half and 3/4 shots at the driving range w both feet together.
