  • Weight transfer driver and 3 wood

    Hi
I have a real problem transferring my weight in my swing using the driver and 3 wood.

I'm loading up my right side on the backswing and fighting to stay centred rather than swaying. I really struggle to fight the sway. Either way, centred or sway on my downswing and follow though my weight is difficult to transfer to the left side and whilst I complete the swing my weight is about 60% on my back foot.
The result is a high cut or a pull and topped shots. (and the odd shank) When I get it right my drives are great and 3 woods off the deck go well. Irons are pretty good (even a 3 iron off the deck) but as soon as driver or 3 wood I struggle

I've tried the walking drill, I've got a clicking wedge from my pro. Both confuse me and I get in a real mess in the swing.

On practice swings I feel it's all working well but as soon as you put a ball in front I have a fight on my hands. To negate I have to concentrate almost on keeping weight on the left in the swing (it does actually shift according to my pro but it feels like it stays oin the left cos of my fault)

I'm a 10 handicapper and when my game goes off I have to rely on recovery to get round.

What are good drills to get over my weight problem? Are there any step by steps or some good video I can look at. I've tried leading with the legs and hips but again confusion steps in and it all gets very messy

    Any advice appreciated

It is difficult to see exactly what is happening without seeing your swing but this video may be of some help to you:

      Hi Brian

Thanks for the video - I'll get this into my next practice.

Uploaded some video - not great quality...

One drill our local pro ( yes I actually have a pro) Get a piece of "4by4" wood and swing with your right foot is on it. I think it's meant to give you the feeling you should be getting. I generally address the ball with my weight a little more on the left if I suspect a problem there, same thing ,it gives you the feeling you are trying to achieve. This problem for me usually happens when I swing back to far(hyper-extending) or reverse pivot, or getting cramped for room when swinging through. Hope it helps
