I have suddenly started pushing shots off to the right. I never do it with the driver but fairway irons and woods now quite regularly do it. What would you think the likely cause of this might be please?
The technical answer is that you are swinging the club out to the right with the clubface also pointing out to the right, this makes the ball take off on a straight line right, or a push.
Now the difficult bit is working out why you do it. Some of the common causes are sliding your lower body forward in the downswing which traps your right elbow behind you in the downswing and prevents you from rotating your arms and shoulders through impact. Another cause may be gripping the club too tightly so that the clubface stays open through impact. Take a look at these first and see if sorting them out fixes the problem.
Well I have looked at those 2 things today Brian. Thank you for the suggestions. I am still not totally sure. I hit 50 balls at the range. Whilst working on these things only 4 of the balls pushed out right. So, I will keep working at it and report back.
