  • How do I hit my new hybrid

Hi, Well I made the plunge and bought a hybrid Cleveland 3i DST launcher. The trouble is how do I use it? I've been told to hit down on it (like an iron), but I've also seen on you tube that you should use a sweeping action. Which is correct?

Is there anybody out there with first hand knowledge please.

    Thanks

You need to use a bit of both. Play the ball around two balls width forward of centre and feel like you are bouncing the flat sole of the club into the back of the ball. Dont try and hit too hard otherwise you will thin it, a nice easy swing like you would use for a seven iron will do it. You should get a nice high ball flight that stops up quickly on the green.

I never did get to like those hybrids... guess I'm more of a traditionalist...

Mmmm a bit difficult to judge here at the mo' as most of the courses here are so wet that they have had to close them, and even the driving ranges have huge puddles all over them, and have stopped people using the putting and chipping arear too! Wettest winter I can remember here!

Anyway, tried to put your advice into action, but unfortunately didn't nail it. I get the occasional one to go a bit, but about one in 20! Still I've had a bit of a think about it and will try again later this week. Thought that maybe I was getting my hands too far ahead of the club face. I always find it difficult to judge without hitting off "real" turf anyway...just a shame the courses are so wet.

Hit it the same way you would hit a traditional three iron. The ball will likely fly higher and further, but the technique is the same.

The rub comes when you need to hit a low flighted three iron.

+ Brian. It's an in between. Much like a wood but with a slightly steeper swing .You are still squeezing it out but don't have to belt it.Try 50% and work up they are really versatile and will get results at most swing efforts

So should I have my weight 60/40 (towards the target) as I would for playing an iron? or have my weight distributed like I would hitting a fairway wood.

Setup everything like you are swinging a 6 or 7 iron but with the ball a tadd further forward.

Re: How do I hit my new hybrid

Went back to the driving range. Advice is starting to sink in. Managed to hit about 60% of shots straight, a bit of a deviation in lengths though! The ones I nailed went really straight, nice hieght, seemed to stop quickly too....I even hit the marker I was aiming for 3 times! It felt like cheating!

Distance was for the most part a little disappointing (I'd guess about 160M), but I'm assuming once I've played with it a bit more that will come. And am I right in assuming my balls will probably go further than the ranges? I seem to remember someone telling me to expect about 10% more distance.

I'm looking forward to trying it out on a real course really soon.

                  Thanks for the advice guys.
