  • help - coming over the top

    Hi

I can't stop myself coming over the top at the start of the swing.

I know i am doing it, i can feel myself doing it, but i can't stop myself.

My practice swings are fine, but when i step up to the ball it always happens, its like i can't hold my right shoulder back

Does anybody have any swing thoughts i could use to help?

    Thanks

    Tim

Re: help - coming over the top

You could try to feel that you start down with the butt end of the grip, you need to try and keep it pointing at the ball to target line and tracking back towards the ball. When you come over the top the butt end will start pointing more towards your foot line.

        Over The Top

        That's good advice by Brian.

I also read an interesting swing thought the other today that made a lot of sense to me that might help. At the start of your downswing try to keep your back to the target a fraction longer and let the arms drop first. This helps keep the right shoulder out of the start of the downswing which results in the over the top shot.

        Cheers

          Re: Over The Top

what u are probab;y doing is not starting ur downswing with the arm startin to drop,,,but turning your shoulders and arms together ,,which will throw ur hands out past the swing plane rite from the start of the downswing...try to make sure u swing ur arms straight down while you hold your cock position,,just the arms swing down and then just let every thing happen , I know this because it is exactly what I do, forget starting the hips ,,,let ur body follow the arm swing all the way to the finish and you should see a much better ball strike and balanced finish. taking the clubto far inside at the takeaway is another common problem, to counter act this when you left arm is parrelle to the ground the shaft of you club should point between your target line and your feet ,,,not at the target line,,,,that is a laid off position,,,this lets u flatten your downswing a bit and helps to hit from the inside ,,,,need anymore info send an email
